Hey guys, I wanted to hear everyone's stories as to why Wicca or Paganism "speaks" to them. Why does Pagan spirituality interest you?
Like most neo-Pagans I came from a Judeo-Christian background. Some of the teachings made sense to me - and still do. However, the idea that we all need to be "saved" to keep from burning in Hell for all eternity made little sense to me. I feel it is everyone's job to actively seek out the Divine. Divinity is always there waiting for us. Our job is to free ourselves from the bondage that makes us feel separate from the Divine - get rid of the thoughts, habits, and actions that cause us to lead an "I need things to be happy" kind of life. I don't like the idea that divinity is separate from the material world. That God sits on a throne in distant Heaven looking down upon creation. While I understand that the Divine has an aspect to it that transcends the material plane, I also know that the Divine is all around us - Divinity is immanent. This Panentheistic world-view is the core of Traditional Wicca.
I could write a book about why I profess Wicca as my faith, but I'd rather hear from you guys.
